Knowledge Knows No Gender

by Aashi Adsule and illustrations by Sai Pimpalkar

129,000,000. According to UNICEF, this staggering figure represents the heartbreaking reality of millions of girls who are shunned away from a classroom, their potential being unrecognised and their futures uncertain. Gender equality has been an ongoing battle throughout human history. Educating girls serves as a catalyst for social change and a ray of hope. However, millions of girls still face significant obstacles in many parts of the world that prevent them from obtaining an education and giving them the opportunity for a better future.

First and foremost, a crucial path toward attaining equality is breaking down gender-based barriers to education. From the beginning of time, women have been faced with structural barriers to education as they were trained to focus on raising a family rather than their own personal careers, which has limited their chances in order to advance in both their professional as well as their personal lives. We are locksmiths of the future generation, and the manner of how we perceive the world will get passed on, this means that we have the power to choose which key we are going to mold. As individuals, if we divert our attention from gender, age, and social status, education is a fundamental right that everyone deserves, it is not a privilege.

Education is an effective strategy for empowering women. It provides individuals with the much-needed skills and abilities that they may require in order to make wise decisions regardless of the context, whether it means taking an important stand in your workplace or simply trying to communicate with one another. This aids in creating a better quality of life. Women with greater education are inclined to stand up for what's right and actively participate in creating their own destinies. In turn, education can tremendously increase one's self-esteem as well as self-assurance. Children typically grow up in environments that are more stimulating and encouraging when their moms are educated. They are better able to support their kids' emotional and academic demands, which benefits the future generation's overall growth. Additionally, when women are educated they are also capable of making informed decisions on parenthood, Educated mothers tend to provide a more stimulating and supportive environment for their children.

Having been provided with education, skills such as creativity critical thinking, and problem-solving are enhanced. This means women with higher levels of education are more likely to become innovators and entrepreneurs, which helps facilitate both the economy as well as society. It further breaks previous gender-based identities and roles, breaking stereotypes, and promoting a new culture of equality. Furthermore, it helps women take their own stand and not be dependent on anyone else, which can, in turn, help them recognise and resist abusive situations, preventing gender-based violence.

Education is essentially a revolutionary force that gives women the confidence to reject old norms. Not only does it mould people's lives, but it also advances society by encouraging equality, economic growth, and creativity. Education continues to be a ray of light, promising a more inclusive and fair future for everyone as long as we work together to remove the enduring challenges.
